Free board games to play online against the computer
You do not need a friend, a board or an app to play a classic board game. These free games run in your browser, play against a computer at three levels, and most also let you pass the phone to a friend.
Classics most people already know
- Quick Chess: full chess with castling, en passant and promotion, three levels, hints, undo and an optional 5-minute clock.
- Checkers: American checkers with mandatory jumps and kings, in 3D.
- Backgammon: race your checkers home with real tumbling dice. No doubling cube, but gammon and backgammon count double and triple.
- Mancala: sow stones round a carved board, win extra turns and capture your rival's stones.
- Dominoes: block or draw dominoes for two to four players, to 100 or 150 points.
Quicker games with the same feel
- Reversi Duel: trap discs between yours to flip them. Corners are worth the most.
- Mill Master: form three in a row to remove an enemy piece, in the classic Nine Men's Morris style.
- Tic Tac Tower: tic-tac-toe with three sizes of blocks that gobble each other.
- Ludo Dash: roll, move and capture your way round the board.
- Chess Puzzle: not a full game of chess, but eight quick checkmate puzzles.
Choosing a level
Easy makes occasional mistakes, so it is good for learning. Medium plays sensibly but can be beaten with a plan. Hard thinks ahead and punishes loose play, so use Hint and Undo to learn from it. In every game Hint and Undo cost a few points, so your score still means something.
Play with someone
For two people on one phone, choose the 2 Player option where a game has one. To compete on the same puzzle or deal, host a game and share the room code. Browse everything on the All games page, or filter by age to find games for children.
