Online team building games
Real team building takes more than a game. But a few relaxed minutes of playing together, win or lose, is an easy way to loosen up a team. These are short, friendly and need no setup.
What a short game does well
- It gives everyone the same starting point. Seniority does not help you spot the odd face.
- It makes people laugh at themselves, which helps the next meeting feel easier.
- It is quick, so nobody feels it is a chore.
Games that suit a team
- To warm up: Tap Hunt and Colour Clash.
- To think together: Math Rush, Word Chain and Anagram Sprint.
- To compete lightly: Stack Sprint and Fruit Catch.
- To celebrate: Six Hitter, a cricket timing game that is fun to cheer.
A simple 15-minute session
- Minute 0: share the code in the chat. Let people join and pick nicknames.
- Round 1 (2 minutes): a warm-up game.
- Round 2 (2 minutes): a word or number game.
- Round 3 (2 minutes): a reflex game for the finale.
- Last minutes: celebrate the podium and ask what people found hard.
This is only an example plan, not a research-based programme. Adjust it to your team.
Keep it inclusive
- Offer a mix of games, so different people can do well.
- Let people watch if they prefer not to play.
- Choose a computer player in the lobby if numbers are low.
Questions
Is this a replacement for real team building?
No. It is a short, light way to relax together. Longer programmes need time and facilitation.
How many people can join?
A room is built for a team or a class. We have tested small groups and do not promise large numbers yet.
Do remote teams need to be on a call?
No, but a call or chat makes it more fun. You only need to share the code.
